Every living organism on this planet needs time to rest. Fields must rest after harvesting before they can be planted again, some animals must hibernate, and humans need to take time off of work. Some businesses are closed on Sundays to ensure every employee gets the rest they need. And every good business allows employees to request days off and does their best to accommodate those requests. Having burned out employees gets your business no where.
Step 2: Be Generous
I have heard it said that “It never hurts to be known as a generous business.” And this is true! Giving fair pay, benefits, and paid vacation are great ways to help keep your employees working for you and builds a good reputation. It never hurts to bring in coffee or donuts every once in a while either. Remember that investing in the people at your business makes them want to invest in your business.
Step 3: Create & Manage An Encouraging Workplace
Like I said, the key to being a business people want to work for is valuing your employees. Implementing zero tolerance for gossip, only talking well of your co-workers, and giving grace when things go wrong or someone makes a mistake are all important for creating this atmosphere. It is important to talk about these things over and over again, but they are best implemented through example. Others will see how you treat people and follow your example.
